What can be said of the recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai? Only that our sympathies go out to the grieving families and with best wishes for a speedy end to the attacks.
Why attack Mumbai? Because of it being an economic powerhouse founded on the Bollywood film industry with its accompanying vertical and horizontal markets. These industries are the international public face of India which spurs tourism and global companies.

It was an evening of felicitation and celebrations at the 11th Lacchu Maharaj Award Felicitation Ceremony this Monday.
As expected the who’s who of the creative and cine world turned up to attend the prestigious event. What made the event special was the fact that well-known bollywood actress and dancer Kum kum Sajjad Khan was felicitated on the occasion of 106th birth anniversary of Kathak exponent Lacchu Maharaj.
. . .
But what really disappointed most who were present at the event was the ‘No Show’ pulled by cinestar turned politician apna chi chi– Govinda. While the star had consented to be the guest of honour for the event he failed to turn up at the last moment as he had to undergo a surgery.

David Dhawan, Govinda on 'Dus Ka Dum'
The Govinda-Salman Khan-David Dhawan jodi gave us the laugh-riot Partner last year. The trio is back, but this time on the small screen. Govinda and David Dhawan will be seen as celebrity guests on Sallu's popular game show '10 Ka Dum' this week.
The special episode promises to be a fun-filled experience as Salman and Govinda got together to rag David Dhawan about his films, his weight and his pot belly. They even took the credit for all of his hit films. But David was not one to let go so easily; he too remarked in his trademark witty style, "I have to deal with one hero who is known for his late-coming and the other who turns up at the studio but refuses to make an appearance on the sets." Needless to say both Govinda and Salman took no offence to David's comments.
Later, Govinda even made an interesting comment about the big-hearted Salman when he said, "Salman comes on time only on one occasion - when someone is in distress!" We are sure no one would know that better than Govinda. After all, when Chi Chi's career was in doldrums, it was Salman who was instrumental in bringing him back with Partner and the rest as they say is history!
The camaraderie between Sallu, Chi Chi and David had to be seen to be believed and needless to say the studio audience couldn't have asked for a better treat. As for all of you who couldn't quite be witness to all the fun and action live, you can catch this special episode on July 25 at 9 p.m. only on Sony Entertainment Television.

The last time Govinda was in Delhi, he was here to shoot for a movie. This time also, the stage is set, but the drama of the impending trust vote is as real as it gets.
The Congress MP from Mumbai was in Delhi on Saturday, and flew back to Mumbai the same day, only to return yesterday. “I was in Delhi on Sunday to attend a dinner with the PM,” he says.
Twice in two days – that’s better attendance than he’s had in Parliament. The MP attended Lok Sabha proceedings on only one out of the 64 days in the last three sessions in the Parliament. How’s it going, considering the trust vote is almost upon them now? “It’s going great. I have been in Delhi for two-three days now. The mahol is perfect,” he says. “The country has to progress and it will, with the N-deal coming through,” he adds. A few days ago, when asked about the date of the trust vote, he had said, “I’m not too sure.”
Now, what does he think is going to happen? “Dekhiye, wohi hota hai, jo manzoor-e-khuda hota hai. However, there is a positive wave towards India in the world. Everybody is looking at us and supporting us in this deal. And we need to be very positive in our thought process too. That’s the need of the hour,” he says. Apparently, Chi Chi had to postpone one of his shooting schedules for Tigmanshu Dhulia’s film in London to be present in Delhi for the trust vote. The producer of the film, Vinay Sinha, has confirmed that the shooting with Govinda would begin on July 23, but the rest of the unit would reach a day earlier.

Bollywood comes to Bedford
Video
Click here for our slideshow of the stars in Bedford
MAIN MAN: Govinda in Bedford on Tuesday.
Stars of Indian film industry shoot scenes for new blockbuster in town centre.
Bollywood came to Bedford on Tuesday as some of its biggest names shot a number of scenes for a new blockbuster movie.
Screaming fans gathered in Harpur Square to watch well-known stars Govinda, Shakti Kapoor, Bhupi and Ameet Chana during recording for a new comedy inspired by the 2005 Hollywood flick The 40-Year-Old Virgin.
The cast recorded an all-singing, all-dancing scene in the town centre before being followed by hordes of enthusiasts to Chapel 29 nightclub in Mill Street to continue filming.
Director Jag Mundhra, a veteran of 32 movies, said: "We have some really big world-famous stars in this movie performing here today.
"The movie is loosely based on The 40-Year-Old Virgin, or at least the lead character is certainly based on the film's lead male."
Some lucky Bedfordians were even drafted in as extras for the scenes.
Mr Mundhra said: "We decided to shoot in Bedford because we wanted a location where we could firstly shoot in front of some impressive traditional looking buildings, like in Harpur Square, and could then move to somewhere nearby to shoot the club scene, for which we needed a venue of an appropriate size like Chapel 29.
"Plus, in London there are a lot of restrictions on when you can shoot in the street so we came to Bedford."
The stars were on hand to sign autographs and pose for photographs throughout the day before leaving town and heading to Soho to continue recording.
Bollywood comedy fans will have to wait until next year for the film's release, but can see Mr Mundhra's latest political thriller Shoot On Sight, starring Brian Cox and Sadie Frost, when it is released in cinemas at the end of this month.

IIFA: Govinda mobbed outside Bangkok hotel
Rohit Khilnani / CNN-IBN
Published on Tue, Jun 10, 2008 at 01:55, Updated at Tue, Jun 10, 2008 in Entertainment section
HERO NO 1: Govinda says that the world is a family and IIFA is improving the relationship between family members.
Bangkok: Govinda has a lot of fans in Bangkok as he found out when he went there to perform at the ongoing IIFA awards. The actor was mobbed as he stepped out of his hotel, and that's where CNN-IBN's Rohit Khilnani caught him in the middle of all action.
Govinda: The world is a family and IIFA is improving the relationship and spreading the culture, and rejuvenating the whole system all over the world. And I believe it's doing a great job thanks to all the people who are organising it. Thanks to Amit ji and everybody else.
Rohit Khilnani: You are performing today I believe. Tell us a bit about that.
Govinda: Well, I guess I'll let people see the performance. But the performance is just a part of it. The basic purpose of IIFA is to gather film people from all over the world, from Asia, from India, from Pakistan — all those who speak a similar language.
Rohit Khilnani: You wear great clothes so do you shop in Bangkok as well?
Govinda: I will see if I get a chance, but thank you all the same.

Akshay, Govinda Steal The Thunder At IIFA Awards
Monday 09th of June 2008
Akshay Kumar and Govinda stole the show at the Ninth International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards ceremony here with their dazzling dance moves while Boman Irani and Reitesh Deshmukh made up for organisational glitches through their hilarious immitations of superstars.
. . . However, Boman and Reitesh came to the rescue with their jokes and had the audience in splits.
The duo took pot shots at Aamir Khan's blogging and his film 'Taare Zameen Par', David Dhawan's Partner, and Amitabh Bachchan, who is the IIFA brand ambassador, among other stars.
The Siam Niramit Hall, which can seat 2,000 people, was packed and Akshay Kumar and Govinda ensured the audience wasn't disappointed.
Akshay, who was honoured with a special award from the host country, made a spectacular entry, flying onto the stage on a skateboard gliding along a wire. He danced to the title song of his forthcoming film 'Singh Is Kinng' as well as past hit numbers and had the crowd asking for more.
Govinda, who bagged the best comic actor award for Partner, also impressed the crowd with his dance moves. . . .

Inside Today's Bulletin
The Precipice Of Pop Insanity
By: Jonathan L Fischer, The Bulletin
05/28/2008
Philadelphia - "Whoa, is this Warhol?" bellowed a twentyish man as he entered the Philadelphia Museum of Art's Alter gallery on a recent afternoon. Pretty close - though between the thick black lines, oppressively bright palette and nods to graffiti art, I might've picked a more multimedia-minded Keith Haring. In an exhibit running through Nov. 2, there's much connecting the mural-sized mid-'80s works of Gilbert and George to the milieu of that decade's Pop art. . . . Three distinct phases within a 10-year stretch of their career star in the exhibit: several photo collages, three "postcard sculptures" and dyed works like "Seven Heroes." . . . Both the cold commercialism of such works and the mocking self-seriousness of others hint heavily at an embrace of pop banality - and mostly, that works. But Gilbert and George's postcard sculptures go too far and, for that reason, are the least grabbing works here. (The artists purchased the materials for the "sculptures" in countryside thriftshops.) "Blue World," the most eye-catching of the postcard pieces, pits almost 100 images of the Bollywood actor Govinda against what appears to be a temple - suggesting an altar to a sort of cultural deity. But mostly, it plummets over the precipice that most of the exhibit manages not to fall off of: a nauseating vortex of Pop nothingness. Jonathan L Fischer can be reached at jfischer@thebulletin.us
